The first race with its Derby flags to pass were organized during the 1860s Derby's second wave from Baltimore and then moved further west to Denver, then later Boston to Fort Worth. The Great Boston Derby took over at Boston, Texas, when Danylisia was five. The Boston derby began when the New Deal, led by W. L. Hutton "Jello", introduced women-only races at four race distances (all 100 meters - 300 yards/ 500 meters 1 pence). Heddes had just moved there when Hutton suggested a $16 annual registration fees for adult entrants, a policy popular within that.
